Description
The increasing use of English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) in higher education (HE) worldwide, as a response to internationalization, has posed significant language challenges for students in non-native English-speaking countries. This raises the question of how content lecturers can effectively provide EMI students with language support. Through a systematic literature review, this research aims to explore how language-related episodes (LREs) are defined and classified, with a focus on EMI settings. The critical evaluation highlights variations in LRE definitions and classifications, identifying potential gaps in EMI-specific studies. The review’s findings contribute to the understanding of LREs in classrooms and suggest directions for further investigation in EMI settings.
